Argentina and Cuba to Strengthen Economic and Trade Relations

Argentina and Cuba are on the road to strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez met with Argentina’s Secretary of International Economic Relations, Jorge Neme, for discussions on the opportunities.

Also present at the discussions were Argentina’s ambassador to Cuba, Luis Alfredo Ilarregui, and Eugenio Martinez, the head of the Latin America and Caribbean division at the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

On Twitter, Mr. Neme described the meeting between Argentina and Cuba, “We are advancing on projects to deepen our historical commercial and cooperation ties, with the idea of promoting exchanges and transfers of technology to strengthen our economies.”

Mr. Neme expressed Argentina’s interest in implementing food sovereignty projects in Cuba which appears to have met with success as confirmed in his Twitter account, “In Cuba we made progress with the Minister of Agriculture to reach a cooperation agreement on agriculture matters with the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (Argentina) and Argentine businessmen; we are going to offer technical cooperation and business projects for the development of the Cuban countryside.”

The Argentinian minister expressed the willingness to continue strengthening economic and commercial links. He also spoke of the historical ties of friendship and solidarity between the two nations. Minister Rodriguez expressed gratitude to Argentina for its support of Cuba against the US blockade.

On the last day of his official visit, Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas received Mr. Neme. The two officials agreed on deepening economic and cooperative ties to the mutual benefit of both countries.

Argentina and Cuba confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening economic ties and bilateral cooperation.

The official visit of Mr. Nemes follows the visit in May of the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, and the presidential advisor Cecilia Nicolini to observe the advances in the development of Cuba’s Covid-19 vaccines.
