Power Machines Russia to Upgrade Sugar Mills in Cuba

Sugar cane field in Cuba.

The Russian company Power Machines will begin upgrading the sugar mills of Cuba next year, Export Sales Director Yuri Kolesnikov told the TASS News Agency yesterday.  Power Machines is one of the top ten global leaders in the supply of power  turbines and auxiliary equipment for hydro, thermal and nuclear power plants.

Spare parts will be supplied to the turbines to upgrade and restore function to 75 turbines that existed during the time when the Soviet Union was a large presence in Cuba.

Kolesnikov reported to TASS, “These turbines have been significantly worn out for the time being. We agreed on a technical expert examination of this equipment with the Cuban party and will offer a list of spare parts for delivery according to its findings. Their installation will make possible to restore normal operability of units already in coming future.”

Upgrade of turbines is planned for the purpose of increasing turbine capacity, the Sales Director said. “The Cuban party is highly interested in that. We have technical capabilities and are ready to meet this requirement,” Kolesnikov added.
